Sun Island was established in 1984, with 8 kindergartens and kindergarten-cum-child care centres across Hong Kong (Hong Kong Island, Kowloon, the New Territories and the Outlying Islands) providing quality pre-primary education for children from 2 to 6 years old.
We provide a happy learning environment and experience to develop the children’s self-confidence, and self-learning and self-care ability. These abilities lead them to explore the surroundings with curiosity and develop ‘mutual trust, mutual learning and interaction’ and a solid foundation of lifelong learning. We believe that school is an effective platform for children to approach the world, and that learning outside school helps them connect with the community.
Our students have diverse cultural backgrounds. We put forward the idea of overlapping circles, regardless of race, so that students can learn and play together. Under our care, the children are cultivated in an environment of care and mutual respect.
School Supervisor
Ms Chan Wing Ki
I had received professional training in social work, family education and early childhood education. I participated in academic studies regarding social work intervention and assets building among low-income families with young children in the Department of Applied Social Sciences at The Hong Kong Polytechnic University for over 10 years. I joined Sun Island in 2015 and was actively involved in front-line management, coordinated all social services and organized home school collaboration activities at all Sun Island kindergartens. Starting from August 2021, I become the School Supervisor of Sun Island. With my rich early childhood education and social services experience, I lead the teaching teams to optimize the school’s curriculum, actively promote schools to serve as bridges and collaborate with families and communities to help children move from home into the community and enrich different learning experiences for children.
Sun Island was established more than 40 years ago, and we have always held the belief that “Self-Confidence, Self-Learning and Self-Care” will provide a solid foundation for children’s self-learning. Therefore, in the school curriculum, we focus on enriching the life experience of the children. In addition, in order to meet the needs of children’s learning and growth, the curriculum emphasizes “learning through play” and facilitates children’s sensory development. We made use of the Quality Education Fund to add gross motor skills facilities in different branches, such as a climbing wall in the Sai Kung Branch and fine motor skills training tools in the Kwai Hing Branch. I hope these new changes will provide the children with better teaching resources to enrich their learning experience.
