Sun Island was established in 1984, with 8 kindergartens and kindergarten-cum-child care centres across Hong Kong (Hong Kong Island, Kowloon, the New Territories and the Outlying Islands) providing quality pre-primary education for children from 2 to 6 years old.
We provide a happy learning environment and experience to develop the children’s self-confidence, and self-learning and self-care ability. These abilities lead them to explore the surroundings with curiosity and develop ‘mutual trust, mutual learning and interaction’ and a solid foundation of lifelong learning. We believe that school is an effective platform for children to approach the world, and that learning outside school helps them connect with the community.
Our students have diverse cultural backgrounds. We put forward the idea of overlapping circles, regardless of race, so that students can learn and play together. Under our care, the children are cultivated in an environment of care and mutual respect.
School Supervisor
Ms Chan Wing Ki
I worked as a registered social worker for more than 20 years before joining the Sun Island family in August 2015. I followed former school supervisor Dr. Ting Wai Fong to conduct academic research in the Department of Applied Social Sciences at The Hong Kong Polytechnic University. After that, I was actively involved in front-line administrative work on the Sun Island campus, following up on the children’s learning situation and facilitating the development of the school in different areas. My past research and work experience have given me a clear understanding of the needs of parents and young children. Therefore, I am confident in leading the school team and providing them with immediate and appropriate support, as required.
School, family and children are closely interrelated. The school acts as a bridge to help children enter the community from their family and broaden their horizons. Thus, school education is indispensable for children’s development. Sun Island was established more than 37 years ago, and we have always held the belief that “Self-Confidence, Self-Learning and Self-Care” will provide a solid foundation for children’s self-learning. Therefore, in the school curriculum, we focus on enriching the life experience of the children. To keep pace with the trends, we have integrated e-learning and topics such as environmental protection in the curriculum, and made use of the Quality Education Fund to add gross motor skills facilities in different branches, such as a climbing wall in the Sai Kung Branch and fine motor skills training tools in the Kwai Hing Branch. I hope these new changes will provide the children with better teaching resources to enrich their learning experience.
